John D. Costa

formerly of Emmaus

John D. Costa, 68, of Cogan Station, Lycoming County, formerly of Emmaus, died March 31, 2026, at the home of his daughter, Jan M. Costa in New Tripoli. He was the husband of Anita M. (Gerkovich) Costa, to whom he was married 38 years. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Joseph G. and Joyce (Brinker) Costa.

He worked in the public works department for the Borough of Emmaus for 33 years before retiring in 2021. Before that, he owned and operated the former John Costa’s Seamless Gutters.

He proudly served on the board of directors of Ranger Rod and Gun Club, Coplay.

He found joy in many things throughout his life, but in his later years he perfected the simple pleasures. If he wasn’t down at Ranger Lake with the boys, he was happily perched on his tractor, mowing any blade of grass he could find. These were the moments he was most at peace and most himself.

He cherished his family, finding his greatest joy in the moments spent together and the love they shared. His legacy lives on in them and in the deep bonds he nurtured with those closest to him.

In addition to his wife he is survived by daughters, Jan M. Costa-Modrich (Brad Modrich), of New Tripoli, Kristina J. Costa-Schwartz (A.J.), of Allentown, Caitlin A. Costa-Schappell (Kyle), of Cogan Station; six brothers; one sister; four grandchildren and “one on the way”; one great-grandson “on the way.” He was predeceased by a brother, Jimmy.

The Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., Schnecksville, is entrusted with the arrangements. Online expressions of sympathy may be recorded at www.heintzelmancares.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to John Costa Bench Fund c/o Ranger Rod and Gun Club, 2450 Quarry St., Coplay, PA 18037 in support of a dedicated family bench. Any additional proceeds will benefit Ranger Rod and Gun Club’s annual Dreams Come True event at which he proudly volunteered.
