Hanover council OKs resolution for airport projects
At the April 1 Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council meeting, council passed resolution 2026-36 that approved the preliminary/final approval of the Lehigh Northampton Airport Authority’s planned taxiway and parking garage projects on Lehigh Valley International Airport property at 3311 Airport Road, Allentown.
Council also authorized township Manager Melissa Wehr to execute the sale of the township’s 2013 F350 truck. The truck was purchased from the township for $31,200. The truck had been placed on MunicibidPA, and a buyer from Boston promptly bid and became the successful purchaser of the truck, it was reported.
Council introduced an ordinance that would amend Chapter 4, Part IV, Section 402(B) of the statutory code of Hanover Township to provide for modified annual inspections of certain category R-1 and R-2 structures. Hanover and a number of other municipalities are attempting to tighten up their rental inspections for fire and other safety concerns.
Bid 2026-1 was opened and examined by council for the Sherwood Park pickleball and basketball courts project. There were four bids, with SLC Excavating LLC as the low bid at $319,155. It was accepted by council, pending a positive review from the township engineer and solicitor.
SLC Excavating is located in Quarryville. The business is a construction services contractor that provides a wide range of construction and excavation services, including park and playground installation.
Director of Public Works Josef Fragnito presented two issues for council review. The first was a maintenance contract regarding survey/surveillance cameras that monitor all buildings in the township. The second issue was a problem with an improperly working solar panel.
After a discussion, council decided to have council Chairman Bruce Paulus and Vice Chairman Robert Heimbecker meet with Wehr and Fragnito to review the suggested contract. The annual contract might cost $9,200.
Council then discussed a solar panel not working properly. Fragnito noted a decision was needed to either replace the solar power unit at an estimated cost of about $20,000 or spend about $7,500 for repair of the solar panel. Council asked Fragnito to secure accurate costs for a new solar panel and a clear estimate of the cost of a repair and to report the cost information to the township manager and council. Council will then make a decision.
In her report, Wehr said the annual Community Day will be held noon-4 p.m. Aug. 22. More details are forthcoming.
She added the new rental agreement for pavilion and baseball field rentals has been finalized, and rental requests are being submitted. Wehr said the township spring newsletter will be out soon.
Council approved the township bills through March 18 in the amount of $262,707.25. Council also approved the township bills through April 1 in the amount of $95,040.45.
The next council meeting is set for 7 p.m. April 15 at the municipal building, 2202 Grove St. Visit hanleco.org to review the meeting’s agenda.
