Elmer C. Long

longtime pediatrician

Elmer C. Long, 87, of Emmaus, died April 4, 2026.

Born in Alburtis, he was the son of Elmer E. and Vivian Long and the devoted husband of Nancy (Shollenberger) Long.

A 1956 Emmaus High School graduate, he earned degrees from Kutztown University (1960) and the University of Maryland School of Medicine (1966).

He completed his internship at Allentown Hospital and served as a major in the U.S. Army, completing his pediatric residency in San Antonio, Texas.

Following his discharge in 1971, he returned to Allentown and practiced pediatric medicine for many years, earning deep respect for his compassionate care and dedication to his patients.

He enjoyed following the Phillies, attending sporting events and collecting baseball cards and sports memorabilia.

He is survived by his wife; his children, Jennifer Strobl (Rodney), Kara Kroh (Eric) and Thomas (Tammy); his grandchildren, Jessa (fiancé John), Taylor, Thomas, Trenton, Kevin (Shalease), Justin, Jared (Alexis) and Cassidy; his great-grandchildren, KJ, Saj and Harper; his brother, James (Barbara), children, Michelle and Eric; his sister, Judy Watson (Jon), daughter, Kris.

He was preceded in death by his son, Tyler D.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ocean City Reef Foundation: Tyler Long Reef, P.O. Box 1072, Ocean City, MD 21843.
