Coplay: Hunger Initiative to hold bingo April 12

Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative is holding bingo April 12 at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 4 S. Fifth St. Doors open 1 p.m., and bingo starts 2 p.m.

Children can play if accompanied by an adult. There is a growing jackpot, currently at $200.

Coplay Garden Club is getting into full swing as April arrives. The next meeting is 7 p.m. April 30 in the social hall at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St.

St. Peter Roman Catholic Church will be holding a Night at the Races May 16 in the social hall. Doors open 5 p.m., and races begin 6 p.m.

Tickets are on sale April 11-12 after Masses and at the rectory. Tables of eight can be reserved.

There is limited seating, and attendees must be 21 or older to be admitted.

Tickets include a voucher for two sandwiches, a bag of chips, coleslaw, baked goods and your choice of beer, wine, soda or water. Outside food is welcome, but no BYOB.

The borough is hiring a pool manager, lifeguards and gate guards. Applications are available 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the municipal office, 98 S. Fourth St.

Coplay Food Bank, located in the lower level of the municipal building, is open 8:30-10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month.

If unable to attend the scheduled Tuesday morning time frame, call Jodi at 610-262-0928 to make other arrangements.

The food bank needs coffee, spaghetti sauce and noodles, canned pasta, rice pouches and non-sweetened dry cereals. Monetary donations are always accepted.

The Coplay aerobics classes now meet 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:45 a.m. Saturdays and 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in the borough hall auditorium. There is a cost by donation.

Bring light dumbbells, a towel and a mat to enhance your workout.

Grass only can be dropped off at 1 Bridge St. Friday brush and branch pick up began April 3.

Call the borough office to schedule pickups of sofas, plastic-encased mattresses, chairs, dressers, etc. There is a limit of two per year at no charge.

Hometown Hero banner applications are available at the borough office. Publicly honor your war heroes and first responders — police officers, firefighters and ambulance personnel — with a banner.
