April declared ‘Volunteer Month’

April 2026 is “Volunteer Month” in Salisbury Township.
Commissioners voted 4-0, with one commissioner absent at the March 26 township meeting, to approve the proclamation. Township Commissioner Alok Patnaik made the motion, seconded by Commissioner Heather Lipkin, to bring the proclamation to a vote.
Volunteers are to be honored at a catered dinner April 23 in the meeting room of the township municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave.
The April 23 commissioners’ meeting is canceled.
Those to be honored are expected to be announced at the township board of commissioners’ meeting scheduled 7 p.m. April 9.
In other business at the March 26 township meeting, commissioners voted 4-0 to approve:
— Resolution amending Civil Service Rules and Regulations. The resolution was described as “more of a cleanup” of verbiage. Commissioner Alex Karol made the motion, seconded by Lipkin, to bring the resolution to a vote.
— Resolution authorizing submission of a CDBG Grant Application and Matching Commitment for the 2027 Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Project. Lipkin made the motion, seconded by Patnaik, to bring the resolution to a vote. Before the vote, Salisbury Township Director of Public Works Jim Levernier said that the work is to be done in the vicinity of Salisbury Township High School.
— Motion to approve a Residency Waiver for a Salisbury Township Police Department Officer. Patnaik made the motion, seconded by Lipkin, to bring the motion to a vote. This was described as a “clerical error.”
— Motion to appoint a corporal-detective from the Promotional Eligibility List. Karol made the motion, seconded by Lipkin, to bring the motion to a vote.
— Motion to approve a contract for Site Characterization Work at 2937 S. Pike Avenue to Keystone Consulting Engineers in an amount not to exceed $136,629. Lipkin made the motion, seconded by Patnaik, to bring the motion to a vote.
Alan R. Fornwalt of Keystone Consulting Engineers said to a reporter for The Press after the vote that the work is to determine what, if any, environmental concerns there might be at the former McAuliffe property that the township purchased. The property is across the street from the municipal complex.
The approximate 35-acre property is being utilized by the township public works department.
— Motion to award the 2026 Bid for Equipment Rental and Operator to Bracalente Construction, Inc., in the amount of $577.22 per hour for 2026. Karol made the motion, seconded by Patnaik, to bring the motion to a vote.
— Motion to direct the township solicitor to appeal the Zoning Hearing Board decision for several variances that were granted a homeowner by the Salisbury Township Zoning Hearing Board Feb. 11. The appeal of Jonathan Solano, 940 S. 24th St., was granted for variances to maintain a shed, roof over the rear patio, expanded driveway, pool, pool deck, pool fence and concrete patio. Lipkin made the motion, seconded by Karol, to bring the motion to a vote.
The workshop discussion following the meeting included the topics: PPL easement request, American tower lease agreement, public works paver replacement and “No-mow May.”
The April Salisbury Township municipal meeting schedule includes: 7 p.m. April 8, Zoning Hearing Board, canceled; 7 p.m. April 9, Board Of Commissioners; 7 p.m. April 15, Environmental Advisory Council and 7 p.m. April 22, Planning Commission, canceled.
