CANCER TELETHON: The 47th American Cancer Society Telethon airs noon to midnight April 11 and 12 from Penn’s Peak outside Jim Thorpe. A mixture of talent, information and fundraising, the telethon airs on Service Electric Cable’s channels 913 and 914 in the Lehigh Valley. B104’s Mike Kelly hosts six remote broadcasts April 11 beginning at 3 p.m. from the Sleepy Cat Urban Winery in Allentown.
Lehigh Valley resident Bari Pollock will receive the ACS Cancer Fighter Courage Award during one of those remote broadcasts. In-person viewers are welcome at the Sleepy Cat and Penn’s Peak. Admission is free.
POP-UP MARKET: The Bethlehem Co-op Market has announced its second “Community in Bloom: A Pop-Up Market” at the Charles A. Brown Ice House, 56 River Dr., on Sunday, April 12 from 1-4 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public and will feature a pop-up market to showcase the store’s future vendors. Last year’s event drew over 200 attendees.
The Bethlehem Co-op Market will open later this year as a full-service, community owned grocery store focusing on locally-sourced products. Located at 250 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, it will be open to all shoppers.
These vendors are planning to attend with samples and/or items to purchase: Bub’s Breads, Dragonfly Hill Farm, Fresh Tofu, Green Pond Packaging, Hippie Momma Apothecary, Keystone Cheese, Lancaster Farm Fresh Co-op, Meadowview Beekeeping, Owowcow, and Wild Salmon.
The event will also feature info tables from local community organizations, including the co-op, and spring-themed, hands-on art activities and a seed swap (bring some and/or take some).
STUDENT ARTWORK: The Bethlehem Area School District will be exhibiting a student art exhibition at the Bethlehem City Hall Rotunda Gallery to May 14. There will be an opening reception Sunday, April 12, from 2 – 4 p.m. The Rotunda Gallery is located at 10 E. Church Street. Gallery hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This exhibition is a combined effort of the Bethlehem Area School District’s art teachers. Art is an integral part of the learning process and gives a student a chance to explore the material world. The exhibition is but a small part of the wonderful body of artwork produced by the many children in the classrooms on a daily basis. This will be a collection of artwork created during the 2025-26 school year.
HI NEIGHBORS: The speakers program offered by First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, 2344 Center St., Bethlehem. It brings a variety of local speakers who share their interest and passion for topics like music, history, travel, and technology.
The programs, all on Mondays, include a social time at 9:30 a.m. with the presentation starting at 10 a.m. They are free and open to the public, and there is no registration needed.
April 13: Tarah Cicero from Lehigh University will share the very basics of a new technology called Virtual Reality.

GARDEN CLUB: The Bethlehem Garden Club is having a presentation on “Fling Into Spring Floral Design”, Presented by Anita Nagle on Thursday, April 16, at Advent Moravian Church, 3730 Jacksonville Road, Bethlehem. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Program at 1 followed by club meeting and refreshments.
The Bethlehem Garden Club will plant a tree at Bethlehem City Hall on Thursday, April 24, at 1 p.m. in celebration of Arbor Day and America’s 250th anniversary. The community is warmly invited to attend this special occasion.
LEPOCO GATHERING: The Rev. Jon Stratton will be the featured speaker at the Annual Gathering of LEPOCO (the Lehigh-Pocono Committee of Concern) on Sunday, April 19. Father Jon’s presentation, “What Side Are You On?” will focus on love and hate.
Born and raised in small-town southern Illinois, Jon is an Episcopal priest who serves as the Dean and Rector of The Cathedral Church of the Nativity in southside Bethlehem.
Scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m., the Annual Gathering will take place in the auditorium of the Bethlehem Steelworkers Union Hall, 53 E. Lehigh St., Bethlehem. The LEPOCO Peace Center is located in the lower level of the Steelworkers Hall.
LEPOCO is a Lehigh Valley-based Peace and Justice organization founded in opposition to the Vietnam War. It is one of the oldest community-based Peace and Justice organizations in the U.S. -- active since its founding in 1965. COPS ‘N’ KIDS: The 18th Annual Cops ‘n’ Kids Celebration of Reading and the Arts and Sciences will be held April 25. The opening parade is set for 10:30 a.m. on the Greenway. Family fun for all ages with free books, activities, reading and craft stations, food, and entertainment from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is not required. ROAD CLOSING: Motorists can expect part of Institute Drive to be closed in the Totts Gap Conservation Area for the next several weeks to protect breeding amphibians. The closure will extend from Totts Gap Road west on Institute Drive for about one-half mile to allow for amphibian migrations to breeding pools without the risk of being crushed by vehicle tires.
In partnership with Upper Mount Bethel Township, Northampton County Parks, Recreation and Conservation is taking steps to protect migrating amphibians by closing the eastern half of Institute Drive through the County’s Totts Gap Conservation Area from March 31 through May 1.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Volunteers are needed for a variety of responsibilities at this year’s Heritage Day on Saturday, May 16. Heritage Day is open free-of-charge to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteers of all ages - adults, high school students, Scouts, church groups - are needed to fill three-hour shifts (8-11 am, 11 am- 2 pm, 2-5 pm) at every site. Volunteer with your spouse, family, friends, and neighbors. All volunteers will receive T-shirts to distinguish them during the event. Engagement with our visitors at this event is a rewarding experience and you would be helping to make it a huge success!
