Moravian University School of Theology, as part of its “Lifelong Learning” series, hosts the Christian Otto and Dorothy Pfohl Weber Lecture, “Beyond the Headlines: A Ministry Leader’s Guide to Media Discernment,” 5 p.m. April 7, Bahnson Center Saal, 60 W. Locust St., Bethlehem.

The panel discussion is intended to bridge the gap between the pulpit, the pew and the press, offering an opportunity to gain useful tools for navigating today’s complex media landscape.

“In an era of rapid-fire information, the ability to discern truth and maintain a grounded pastoral presence is more vital than ever,” said Rev. Dr. Lindsey Scott, Director of Strategic Programs, Lifelong Learning, and Doctor of Ministry Program.

“This lecture isn’t just about media literacy, it’s about how we, as people of faith, bear witness to the truth in our daily lives and leadership,” Scott said.

The discussion features a multidisciplinary panel of experts, including:

• Dr. Brian Kaylor, Editor-in-Chief, Word&Way, a Christian media outlet, and a Baptist minister;

• Dr. Belinda Waller-Peterson, Associate Dean for Inclusive Excellence, Moravian University, and Associate Professor and Chair, Department of English and Writing Arts;

• Dr. Erik Ranstrom, Assistant Professor of Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care, School of Theology, and

• Dr. Jill Irvine, Professor Emeritus, Department of International and Area Studies, University of Oklahoma, and MDiv student at the School of Theology.

“Part of our commitment to lifelong learning is ensuring our leaders are prepared for the world as it exists today,” said Dr. Christian Rice, Dean, Moravian University School of Theology.

“By bringing together voices from journalism, healthcare and political science, we are providing a holistic road map for sacred calling in a digital age,” Rice said.
