HARP EVENTS: Heidelberg Union Church’s HARP (Heidelberg Area Retired Persons) group will meet at 11 a.m. May 5. We will be traveling to Zimmerman’s Hotel at Werley’s Corner. Weisenburg/Lowhill Historical Society will give us a tour. We will be going to Cracker Barrel Restaurant following the tour for lunch. We will meet at the church at 10:30 a.m. to carpool. CHOW CHOW SALE: Chow Chow orders are currently being taken at Heidelberg Union Church! To order, call the church at 610-767-4740. The sale pick up date is April 27.

COMMUNITY MEAL: Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 1343 Long Lane Road, Kutztown, will be offering free meals from 5-6:30 p.m. April 16. Open to everyone in our community. Please join us to share good food and fellowship. This event is hosted by the Local Shared Outreach Group of Mt. Zion and Frieden’s Lutheran Churches and New Jerusalem Zion UCC. SOUP SALE: Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 1343 Long Lane Road, Kutztown, is selling R and K subs and pretzel sandwiches and homemade soup. No meat vegetable, chicken noodle, and ham and bean soup will be available in quart size containers. Pickup will take place from 4-6 p.m. April 23. BASKET SOCIAL: Heidelberg Union Church, 5187 Irvin Road, Slatington, will be holding its Spring Basket Social 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 25 and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 26. The cost is $5 a sheet or 5 sheets for $20. There will be a $200 special cash raffle. A portion of the proceeds will be given to Goodwill Fire Co. No. 1 in Germansville.

AMERICA 250 EVENT: Celebrate our Heritage and America’s Birthday with the local Allemaengel 250 Committee, April 11 at Kempton Community Center, 83 Community Center Drive, Kempton. This event will be held rain or shine. Doors open at noon. Parking and admission to all events is free. Afternoon program includes speaker Michael Jesberger, noted Ben Franklin impersonator Mitchell Kramer from Philadelphia, Betsy Ross from the Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia,

Brandywine Colonials Fife and Drum Corps, 1st Pennsylvania Rifle Regiment activities and student colonial encampment, Liberty Bell Replica and historical exhibits. Free Liberty Express train rides by adjacent WK&S Railroad at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Hoedown at 6:30 p.m. with Keith Brintzenhoff. Food available for purchase by the kitchen of the Community Center. ROADSIDE CLEANUP: The Rural Preservation Association this year will not be sponsoring the annual Cleansweep event, usually held at the Lowhill Township building on Route 100 and Herber Road in April. However, on April 18, the Lynn Township EAC is holding a Spring Roadside Cleanup and Recycling Day. Find the Lynn Township EAC on Facebook for details.

CAR SHOW: Morgenland Church, 3120 Weidasville Road, Orefield, (Leather Corner Post) will be holding its “Wheels at the Grove” car show 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 9. All vehicles are welcome. Last year they had cars, trucks, and tractors. This year they will also have a motorcycle. All vehicles will be parked in their paved parking lot as space permits. There is a small registration donation fee. The event is free to visitors and there will be free parking. A printable registration form is available at “Morgenlandchurch.org.” Visit their website to see upcoming events, register for the car show or you can register the day of the event. They will have a trophy, the pastor prize, basket raffle, baked goods, rumble seat rides, and 50/50. Their great cooks will serve breakfast, lunch and this year, free coffee. SCHOOL FUNDRAISER: The Northwestern Elementary Scholarship Committee is sponsoring a summer bus trip to New York City on July 11. The bus will depart NWE parking lot at approximately 7:30 a.m. and depart Bryant Park in NYC at 7:30 p.m. There is a cost per person. CRAFT SALE: Weisenberg Lutheran Church’s Social Ministry, 7645 Weisenberg Church Road, New Tripoli, is holding a craft, yard and bake sale event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 11 to benefit World Hunger. Event will be held rain or shine. Some of the vendors include wood working, jewelry, 3D shadow boxes, silk flowers, crochet and knitted items, and handmade fabric items. They will also offer breakfast sandwiches, hot dogs and other food and drink items for sale during the event in the basement. LCCC BINGO: To raise funds for student scholarships and host a community event to bring people to its Schnecksville campus, the Lehigh Carbon Community College Foundation will hold Spring Cash Bingo on April 11, in the Community Services Center. Doors open at 11 a.m. for food purchases and bingo registration. Bingo will begin at 1 p.m. and conclude by 4 p.m. Bingo games include a variety of cash prizes. Food will be available for purchase. Only 225 tickets will be sold. Individual tickets can be purchased before April 11 and at the door. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. HAWK MOUNTAIN

SUMMER CAMP: Hawk Mountain Sanctuary invites families to plan ahead for an unforgettable summer of outdoor exploration with its 2026 Summer Nature Camps. Designed for youth in grades one through five, these week long day camps will immerse children in the natural world through hands-on, educational, and fun-filled experiences on the Mountain. All camps run Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 15 — Aug. 7. Led by professional environmental educators, Hawk Mountain’s camps prioritize small group sizes to ensure optimal teacher-student ratios and meaningful learning experiences. Each day is packed with themed activities that may include meeting live animal ambassadors, hiking Sanctuary trails, conducting experiments, creating art and crafts, role-playing, storytelling, and learning from scientists and special guest presenters. HELPERS WANTED: The Sanctuary is also seeking 14- to 17-year-olds who need internship or volunteer hours to assist with camp by participating in the Counselors-In-Training program, which provides leadership training and hands-on experience working with youth in the outdoors. SENIORS GROUP: Lehigh Gap Nature Center, 8844 Paint Mill Road, Slatington, has formed a new group for nature-minded seniors. The sessions will be held in the Great Hall at the Osprey House on the second Monday of each month from 9-10:30 a.m.

ECOLOGY CLUB: LGNC’s Ecology Club is back for the 2025-26 school year! Children ages 9 and older are invited to meet from 4:15-5:15 p.m. at the Osprey House on the first Wednesday of every month until June 3 for fun, hands-on nature adventures. BENEFIT TOURNAMENTS: The Pediatric Cancer Foundation LV recently announced that registration is now open for its May 15 Luau On The Links golf outing, presented by Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital. Register at https://birdease.com/pcflvgolf.

The Center for Humanistic Change, a nonprofit organization providing prevention education programs and student assistance services in Northampton and Lehigh counties, will host its third annual spring golf open scramble tournament on May 4. The outing will be held at the lovely and popular Green Pond Country Club in Bethlehem with check-in at 8 a.m. and a 10 a.m. shotgun start. FOSTER CARE: The Salvation Army Eastern Pennsylvania Children’s Services announces the launch of a new Short-Term Foster Care Program that provides safe, loving homes for children who require temporary care. No prior experience is required, just a willingness to provide a nurturing and supportive environment for children in need for days or weeks. CAMP CADET: State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, have announced its annual Camp Cadet program will be held June 7 to 12, at Camp Fowler, 5851 Horseshoe Road, Orefield. The camp is an overnight summer program for boys and girls between the ages of 12-15. Its goal is to introduce them to the diverse criminal justice system and to establish a positive relationship between law enforcement and youths, while living in an atmosphere similar to an actual State Police Academy.
