LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Hunting for eggs

Annual event held at Coplay’s Saylor Park

A nice, seasonable-weather day greeted the members of the Coplay Volunteer Fire Department March 29 for the fifth annual community egg hunt.

The hunt was held at Coplay’s Saylor Park, behind the fire house adjacent to the social hall at 165 Cherry St.

The event included a food truck called We Squeeze to Please, operated by husband and wife team Jack and Alysa Daniels, from Northampton. The truck was placed outside of the fire house near the grassy egg hunt area to serve food and refreshments before and after the hunt.

Coplay Fire Chief Dakota Fenstermaker was on hand, leading his firefighter staff to coordinate the egg hunt. Tiffany Benson and Macy Fenstermaker were buzzing around like spring bees, helping where needed at the event.

Volunteer firefighters placed countless eggs for each age-level event all around the grassy area. When the excited egg hunters were given the signal, there was a lively scramble for the plastic eggs loaded with candy.

There were several distinct hunts, separated by age groups. The first category was newborn to 3 years old, followed by ages 4-6 and concluded with the age 7-10 category.

The kids and parents were enthusiastic for the outdoor egg hunt. The kids were wide-eyed when they saw the Easter Bunny, who made himself available for pictures before and after the hunt.

Tom Gross Sr., Tom Gross Jr. and his wife, Julie, were joined by her father, Gary Black, and the Gross’ son Elliot and their newborn boy Finley.

After the hunt, the crowd outside drifted into the fire department truck garage as kids lined up to see the Easter Bunny or get some food from the food truck.

Coplay Fire Department volunteers were clearly delighted with the turnout and grateful for their team’s work to create a family day filled with fun for all.

The last two years, the hunt was moved indoors because of inclement weather. The hunt was then held in the social hall, now operated by Coplay Borough.
