I have worked as a freelance writer for the East Penn Press for over 30 years (where does time go?!). During that time, I have worked with four editors.

My longest association has been with our current, but soon retiring, editor Debbie Galbraith. Debbie started not long after our son Ben was born. I have to admit that I was a little cranky when one of her first acts was to call a staff meeting of all her writers and I had to find a babysitter.

Besides giving us the opportunity to meet all our cowriters, Debbie also handed out style sheets (which I still have) that laid out writing and labeling conventions. I appreciated the organization that she brought to the writing process as well as the personal touch when there were challenging things going on in my life.

Debbie, it has been a privilege to work with you the last 20 years. Thank you for your patience when I (often) stretched out those column deadlines to the last minute or beyond. I wish you all the best in retirement!

The copy deadline for the May 6 column will be April 30.
