‘Fish with a Cop’ April 25

Spring is in the air and the roller-coaster weather patterns typical of March will soon begin to moderate ushering in the return of green grass, a varied palette of spring flowers, gentle rains and warm breezes. That’s the dream! We’ll see how it works out.

Spring break for Salisbury Township School District will be April 2-6. Offices and schools will reopen April 7.

Upcoming events include the end of the third quarter marking period April 8 and T-shirt day at Salisbury Elementary School April 10.

Pennsylvania System of School Assessments will begin at both SES and Salisbury Middle School during the month of April. English Language Arts PSSAs will be administered April 20-22 and math testing will run April 27-28. Students are encouraged to do their best to prepare for testing days by getting plenty of sleep and eating a nutritious breakfast on test days.

The Salisbury High School National Honor Society will hold a blood drive April 22 in the auxiliary gym 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Salisbury Township School District technology department will conduct a free technology class for residents 9:30-10:30 a.m. April 8. The workshop is entitled “What is AI? A Beginners Guide to Digital Assistants.”

During this session, participants will learn to use Google, Gemini, Siri and Alexa to help with everyday tasks such as set reminders, ask questions, write notes or get directions. No tech experience is needed although a Google account is recommended. All classes take place in the administration building, 1140 Salisbury Road. The next Home Depot Kids Workshop will take place 9 a.m. April 4 and features a farm planter. Register online at homedepot.com/c/kids-workshop.

The Salisbury Police Department is teaming up with the Emmaus Police Department for a morning of fun during the “Fish with a Cop” program. The event will take place 8-11 a.m. April 25 at Furnace Dam, 451 S. 10th St., Emmaus.

You can bring your own pole or get there early as free finishing pole sets will be given to the first 40 youth (under 18) who arrive at the event. Breakfast, snacks and drinks will be provided and no fishing license is required. For questions about this event go to police@emmauspd.org.

The Salisbury Township Public Works Department will conduct curbside branch collection April 6. Place your branches at the curb after 6 p.m. April 5. Branches must be bundled with twine, have no other yard waste mixed in and may be no more than 5 feet long or 5 inches in diameter. Please limit your bundles to no more than five per property. Small twigs may be placed in an open container with no lid for collection.

The township yard waste drop off sites will be open for the season starting April 6. The Franko site will be open April 6, 9 and 11 and the Devonshire site will be open April 13, 16 and 18. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
