EHS names student of the week
Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.
A. My parents are Charles and Lori Samer. I have two sisters, Catherine and Elizabeth and one twin brother, Charles.
Q. As a senior, do you have any specific goals you will pursue this academic year?
A. As a senior my goal is to make it to the district track and field meet for the hurdles.
Q. What is your favorite class at Emmaus High School? Why?
A. My favorite class is my current engineering capstone class. The class is a culmination of all of the previous engineering classes, which is all about going through the design process from finding and solving a real world problem.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I received the rank of Eagle Scout my junior year. My Eagle Scout project involved creating a new trail kiosk for the Wildlands Conservancy at B. Leroy and Elizabeth Burkhart Preserve. I have also received as well the Academic Excellence Award every year of high school and Principal’s Honor Roll each marking period
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?
A. I am a member of the EHS Track and Field team, marching band (section leader), National Honor Society and Scouts BSA. The involvement in these organizations has created lasting memories and friends that have made me into a well-rounded person.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. My biggest challenge has been balancing academics and extracurricular activities with my personal life. With my many activities, I have been constantly developing my time management skills.
Q. At this time, what are your plans for the future beyond high school?
A. My plans are to pursue a mechanical engineering degree and possibly participate in the ROTC program.
Q. If you could spend an evening conversing with a historically significant person, whom would you choose? Why?
A. I would have a conversation with Neil Armstrong. We have very similar interests as an Eagle Scout, military service and engineering. I would like to hear about his path to becoming an astronaut.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered as someone who was always smiling and who made others feel welcomed.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. Focus on experiencing as many activities as you can. You don’t need to stick with each one but finding your favorites is very important.
