Earth Day cleanups scheduled April 18 and April 25
It’s time to tidy up the townships.
Lower and Upper Milford townships will mark Earth Day with annual cleanups April 18 and April 25 respectively and volunteers are needed.
“Spring Cleanup Day” in Lower Milford Township is scheduled 8 a.m. to noon April 18. Traditionally, volunteers are treated to a lunch after the cleanup.

On April 25 the Borough of Emmaus and Upper Milford Township Joint Advisory Council hosts its annual Earth Day Community Cleanup Day.
Volunteer registration starts 8:30 a.m. at Emmaus Community Park, 1401 Shimerville Road, Emmaus.
Past cleanup efforts have included along the railroad tracks near Weis Markets, Emmaus as well as the grounds of the Emmaus Public Library.
Electronics recycling and free shredding for residents will be available 9-11 a.m., or until the trucks are full, in Emmaus Community Park.
Shredding and electronics recycling are handled by Responsible Recycling Services, LLC.
Visit the township website, www.uppermilford.net, for a list of items and fees to recycle some electronics. Cash and/or check will be accepted.
Please note, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is scheduled to close Indian Creek Road for approximately 140 days to replace a box culvert.
Detour and other traffic signs are in place and work is expected to start April 1. Please be mindful of the work zones as you travel.
The Vera Cruz Community Association will welcome egg enthusiasts to its annual egg hunt April 4.
The hunt will start promptly 1 p.m. in Mystic Chain Park, 3718 Main Road East, in the township.
The event is designed for egg hunters 12 years old and younger.

Royal watchers may want to mark their calendars for a special visit with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, presented by character actor Alisa Dupuy, 7 p.m. April 8 at the Southern Lehigh Public Library, 3200 Preston Lane, Center Valley.
The event is part of the Evenings with Friends lecture series sponsored by the Friends of the Southern Lehigh Public Library.
Registration is required. There is a cost for tickets.

The Southern Lehigh Public Library is the home library for Lower Milford Township residents.
The Emmaus Public Library is home to Upper Milford Township residents and upcoming events at the library include the 26th annual Spring Used Book Sale fundraiser April 24 and April 25.
The sale is open 5:30-7:30 p.m. April 24 for a ‘Friends’ preview night for members of the Friends of the Emmaus Public Library. Visitors may join at the door for a cost. The sale will be open to all 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 25.
Items for sale traditionally include gently used fiction and nonfiction books, children’s books, CDs, DVDs and puzzles. Visit the library website www.emmauspl.org for details.
The Marquis de Lafayette, assisted by Ed Johnson, will talk about his life and how he connected with George Washington and the American Revolution at the monthly meeting of the Upper Milford Historical Society 7 p.m. April 30 at the Upper Milford Township municipal building, 5671 Chestnut St., Emmaus. All are welcome.
The next meetings of the Upper Milford Township board of supervisors are scheduled April 2 and April 16. Meetings start 7 p.m. in the township building, 5671 Chestnut St. An online option also is available.
The next Lower Milford Township board of supervisors meeting is scheduled 6:30 p.m. April 16 in the township building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road.
