David R. Aten, 94, of Macungie, died peacefully Feb. 25, 2026, at Phoebe Allentown. He was the husband of Judith A. (Heyer) Aten. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Robert I. and Mary C. (Fritch) Aten.

He was a 1950 graduate of Emmaus High School and a 1954 graduate of Penn State University.

He honorably served his country in the Army from 1954-1956, stationed in Würzburg, Germany. He then started his career working at Aten Hardware. Later he worked for Nationwide Insurance for 10 years and then owned and operated Aten Insurance Agency, working as an insurance broker and certified life underwriter for 20 years, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Macungie.

He was an active member of the Emmaus Lions Club and served District 14K as District Governor and State Council Chair. He was also an active member of Lehigh Lodge #326 F & AM and Lehigh Day Lodge #813 F & AM and member of the Lehigh Consistory, Rajah Shrine, High 12 Club and the Hillbillies.

He was a founding member and past president of the Macungie Ambulance Corps, member of the Macungie Fire Company, Macungie VFW, TPA and a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Byron and his wife, Denise, J. Douglas; daughter, Rebecca and her husband, Dan Amidon; stepson, Andrew Whitaker and his wife, Kim; stepdaughter, Angela and her husband, James Itterly; grandchildren, Danika and her husband, Alex Kyriakos, Veronica and her husband, Ryan Taylor, Victoria; great-grandson, Chase Taylor; step-grandchildren, Marissa and Jared Itterly, Emily and Darien Whitaker; brother, Richard and his wife, Susan.

He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Leer.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. May 15 in Solomon’s Union Cemetery, Macungie. Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus is handling arrangements.
