In a press release dated March 25, authorities announced “a juvenile was found with a loaded gun at Emmaus High School.”
The juvenile is described as a student at the school.
The juvenile was taken into custody and faces felony charges in juvenile court, according to a press release from Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan.
An East Penn School District email shared with The Press detailed the incident as follows:
At approximately 10:20 a.m. March 25, during “an administrative search of a student’s belongings, school officials discovered a loaded firearm inside a student’s school bag.”
According to the district attorney’s office, the search concerned an unrelated situation.
The firearm was described as a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol considered a “ghost gun” because it does not have a serial number and was not sold “through the normal course of firearms commerce,” according to authorities.
The Emmaus Police Department School Resource Officer at the high school confiscated the weapon.
No one was hurt.
The student did not display or make threats with the weapon.
“At no time during the recovery was the weapon brandished, nor were any threats made toward students or staff,” according to the announcement from the school district.
Emmaus High School is located at 500 Macungie Ave. in the borough.
Counseling services are available to students and staff through the school district.
