Local Girl Scouts celebrate 100 years of World Thinking Day in Neffs
Girl Scouts from across the Parkland area gathered March 21 at Union United Church of Christ to celebrate the 100th anniversary of World Thinking Day, a global tradition connecting Girl Scouts and Girl Guides in more than 150 countries.
The event, held 9 a.m. to noon, welcomed local troops for a morning of learning, cultural exploration and friendship.
This year’s theme, “Our Friendship,” highlighted the shared bonds that unite girls around the world through the Girl Scout and Girl Guide movement.
Planning and leadership of the event were led by Girl Scout Troop 6244, a group of Senior Scouts who all attend Parkland High School.
The troop organized activities designed to encourage participants to learn about different cultures, embrace perspectives beyond their own and reflect on the global impact of the organization.
Joining Troop 6244 were several other local troops, including 6321, 609, 6550, 6514, 6051, 6647 and 6973.
Together, the Scouts participated in interactive stations and discussions that celebrated international traditions and emphasized the importance of global friendship.
The event gave local Scouts the opportunity to continue the celebration and deepen their understanding of its significance.
First established in 1926, the day has grown into an international moment of unity, encouraging girls to think of one another and recognize their shared experiences across borders.
As the organization marks a century of World Thinking Day in 2026, the Neffs gathering served as a meaningful reminder that friendship, understanding and community remain at the heart of the Girl Scout mission.
