Career fair opens doors for students

On March 19, Parkland High School hosted the annual career fair in the main gymnasium. This career fair serves as a way for students to gain exposure to potential career paths, discover job opportunities in the Lehigh Valley and interact with local business owners/representatives.

All Parkland High School juniors and seniors had the opportunity to visit the career fair during their social studies class periods.

In the main gym, various local businesses and companies set up stands with representatives.

As students walked through the gym, they got to speak with these representatives who explained what their companies were, how they impact the Lehigh Valley and their own personal career experiences. This allowed students to ask questions and discover if these career paths aligned with their goals.

Additionally, several branches of the military were present at the career fair to share their experiences with students and answer their questions regarding military service.

Many of the businesses present at the career fair were hiring. Companies such as Cactus Blue Mexican Restaurant, Dorney Park and various summer camps were searching for summer employees.

Several students printed resumes to hand out to hiring stands. These stands had information sheets students could fill out in order to be contacted regarding job opportunities.

Many stands also brought treats and other free items for students to enjoy. The Cactus Blue stand was a favorite among students due to handing out free chips and salsa!

The career fair served as a fantastic way for students to have personal conversations with Lehigh Valley workers in order to gain insight on potential careers. As well as being a fun day looked forward to by many high school upperclassmen, the career fair was an educational experience for these students as they enter the workforce.
