STSD schools and district offices to close for spring break April 2-6
The Salisbury Township School District board of directors held a regular school board meeting March 11.
The curriculum and technology portion of the meeting started off with votes in favor of approving the Second Step Program to replace the Leader in Me Program at Salisbury Elementary School as well as a LearnWell Agreement and special education agreements for three Salisbury students.
During the operations committee portion of the meeting’s agenda the board approved an acknowledgment that the Education Department of Fox, Rothschild, LLP will become the Education Group of McNess, Wallace & Nurick, LLC as of April 1.
Also approved were additions, deletions and corrections to the district’s per capita tax in the amount of $420.
Director Joseph Gnall made a motion to approve two Public School Facility Improvement Grant resolutions for both a replacement chiller and the HVAC system at Salisbury High School. The motion passed.
Chief Financial Officer Dawn Nickischer presented an overview of the five-year projections as well as a budget timeline and a line-by-line accounting of local, state and federal revenues, expenditures resulting in a budget gap of $518,000, which the administration will continue to whittle down.
Director Laura McKelvey, chair of the personnel committee, made a motion to approve the retirements of Susan Wilson, full-time teacher and Donita Marze, part-time instructional assistant.
The board also approved a removal of employment for part-time instructional assistant Vicky Robinson.
Substitute deletions include Robert Lulis, due to retirement.
New hires approved by the board include part-time instructional assistant Samantha Keegan, Junior Varsity baseball coach Ryan Taynton, SMS assistant swim coach Annie Purtell and SMS swim club adviser Erin Fagan.
Approved for Extended School Year 2026 are teachers Elizabeth Kantzaridis, Rory Watson and Rebecca Woodward and instructional assistants Leanne Adamcik, Linda Gardus, Kimberly Lichtenwalner, Kelly Liggitt, Briana Lighting, Kristen Mohry, Sherri Mohry, Jasmine Riegel and Kristin Strauss.
Nurse assistant Michelle Peters was also approved as well as daily substitute Joseph Lynn.
The board also approved a four-year contract for Director of Human Services Ralph Lovelidge who will serve the district until June 30, 2030.
After approving several district policies for final adoption the board then voted in favor of establishing a PIAA cooperative sponsorship in Junior High Softball with Allentown Central Catholic High School for the 2026 season pending PIAA approval.
During the board member’s reports the board approved an agreement between Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21 and Salisbury Township School District for a driver’s education program effective July 1 through July 30, 2027.
In her superintendent’s report Lynn Fuini-Hetten noted that March is Music in Our Schools Month™ and there are several spring concerts in the offing throughout the months of April, May and June.
Schools and offices will be closed for spring break April 2-6 and will reopen April 7.
On May 5, 5-8 p.m., the SHS auxiliary gym will feature the artistic creations of students in grades K-12 during the annual art show. Live music and refreshments will compliment this popular event.
Also during the art show a budget overview will be presented by Chief Financial Officer Dawn Nickischer 5:30-6 p.m. The first 500 residents will be treated to dinner sponsored by the Salisbury Education Foundation in lieu of the community breakfast.

The next meeting of the Salisbury Township School District board of directors will an operations and finance committee meeting 7 p.m. April 15.
A curriculum and technology meeting will be held 7 p.m. April 22 followed by a regular school board meeting.
