Postseason goal for LHS
Is this the year Liberty’s girls’ lacrosse team can put it all together?
That’s what head coach Samantha Rella is hoping for with a veteran group coming back into the fold this spring.
After missing out on districts last year with an 8-9-1 mark, the Hurricanes are poised to make an appearance this year.
Returning players this year are Erika Broesicke (senior, goalie); Ellis Corr (senior, midfield and draw specialist); Abigail Mayes (senior, defense and draw specialist); Julianna Zumas (senior, midfield); Lily Medaska (junior, attack); Olivia Romero (junior, attack); Christina Bozakis (junior, attack); Elizabeth McClarin (sophomore, midfield); Jaylisha DeJesus-Zayas (sophomore, defense); Sarah Heidecker (senior, attack); Elle Surowiecki (junior, midfield); Miley Shemanski (senior, defense) and Maddie Roy (sophomore, defense).
“This group of seniors and juniors has built a strong foundation together over the past two to three years,” said Rella. “We have great chemistry, trust in one another, and the ability to adapt to changes. Their experience, passion for the game, and willingness to put in the work continue to push the team forward as we strive to be as successful as possible this season.
Newcomers include: Kaylee Wagner (midfield, sophomore); Lucy Reylonds (sophomore, attack); Lunabelle Rivas Alacron (sophomore, defense); Adelyn McCane (sophomore, defense); Amelia Strasser (sophomore, defense) and
Sadie Deschamps (junior, midfield).
“This year, our focus is on starting every game strong, right from the first draw,” said Rella. When we give our full effort and compete, anything is possible. By staying committed to playing our best lacrosse, there’s no limit to what this team can achieve. We have a lot of returning starters who have great chemistry and experience working together. As always, we want to improve our record and make it to districts this year.”
Liberty won their opener over Daniel Boone 17-1 over the weekend, but get their taste of EPC action this week when they take on league power Easton on Tuesday.
