Center indoor paint color, turf gets board approval

Indoor paint color and casework and turf flooring were discussed during the Community Center Advisory Committee comments at the Weisenberg Township Board of Supervisors meeting, March 9.

Township Manager Brian Carl said he is looking at going with an antique white cabinet for the kitchen, the break room, office, casework, and the office for the copier and office supplies.

Those four rooms, kitchen, break room, main office and copier/supply office would get a solid surface countertop with integrated bowl and then solid surface countertop in both of the bathrooms, he said.

A motion was made by Vice Chairman Tony Werley for the casework and countertops not to exceed $19,000. The motion was approved.

“We have been talking about this for some time. We are ready to make a recommendation on the turf,” he said. “We have a new sample of the indoor turf. It is similar to our very first sample that we had but cheaper. The turf itself with padding, no fill needed for the turf room comes to $61,200 installed.”

He said originally, he was going with a rubber flooring, but it was recommended that they go with this (type of turf flooring) which is something that a lot of gymnasiums use.

He added this is almost like a laminate floor, it’s got like three pads to it so there’s some cushion to it and it’s got a little bit of grip to it and it’s easy to clean, for $32,000.

“So all in it comes to $93,000 to do the turf room,” Carl said. “I budgeted $140,000 because that was our original price.”

“Originally we were going to paint the concrete. So this stuff in there would be $46,400. So essentially, we could do the turf area, the walking track and the gym,” he said. “So the grand total would come to $139,400.”

After further discussion, a motion was made to approve the turf Carl had discussed with the board and the motion was approved.

Supervisor Richard Bleiler during the discussion ask Carl “How are we doing. Are we still in budget, still being able to cover everything though donations.”

Carl said, “We’re $250,000 under our original main budget.”

Under the township manager’s comments, Carl asked the board’s approval to purchase a power broom with a rubber broom on it for about $700.

He said it would be used to fluff the turf once a year and be used on the walking trail by Waste Management.

The motion was approved.

He then discussed the tentative construction completion date for the community center.

“I don’t have the final construction schedule back from Conestoga yet but we’re thinking the building can be done sometime in June,” he said.

Carl said under the fire department comments, the fire department is working with the township because it’s the 20th anniversary of the fire department.

“We are planning on doing a combined event with them at the grand opening of the community center,” he said. “The typical community day we do.”

Under new business, the board approved the mow and turf contract to Made in the Shade for a cost of $377 for the park, $110 for the baseball field and four fertilizer treatments at both locations for a cost of $6,132.
