Good vs. evil comes alive in ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ at Emmaus High School
The Emmaus High School Theater Department will present its spring musical “Jekyll & Hyde” The Musical 7 p.m. March 25-27, 2 and 7 p.m. March 28 and 2 p.m. March 29. An additional performance was held March 24.
The artistic director/producer is Jill E. Kuebler.
“The epic struggle between good and evil comes to life on stage in the musical phenomenon, ‘Jekyll & Hyde,’” Kuebler said. “Based on the classic story by Robert Louis Stevenson and featuring a thrilling score of pop rock hits from the award-winning team of Frank Wildhorn and Leslie Bricusse, ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ has mesmerized audiences worldwide. ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ is a cautionary tale involving two sides of the same man – one, a doctor, passionate and romantic; the other, a terrifying madman – and the women who love him.
“A devoted man of science, Dr. Henry Jekyll is driven to find a chemical breakthrough that can solve some of mankind’s most challenging medical dilemmas. Rebuffed by the powers that be, he decides to make himself the subject of his own experimental treatments, accidentally unleashing the inner demons personified in his alter-ego, Mr. Hyde.
“Although Jekyll & Hyde deals with difficult themes, I believe that if handled in a sensitive and educationally appropriate manner, these themes can be an impetus to teach understanding, critical thinking skills and compassion. Art is not meant simply to reinforce our values, but also to show what can happen when things go awry in an effort to promote learning and effect change.”
