LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Fresh faces highlight BC volleyball team

Improvement is what head coach Nick Greenawalt and the Bethlehem Catholic volleyball team is aiming for this spring.

Coming off a 3-17 season a year ago, the team is mostly new, but has players that can develop.

Returners include Peter Tocci (Junior, setter); Matthew Amrick (Junior, Libero); Rhyker Santiago (Junior, DS/OPP) and Nick Cortez (Sophomore, OH).

Newcomers are Evan Schultz (Junior, OH); Michael Bergman (Junior, OPP); Jackie Pham (Senior, M); Sawe Logaivau (Junior, M); Lyuy Heng (Senior, OH); Max Salce (Freshman, DS) Joseph Joseph (Freshman, DS/OH).

“It’s mostly a new team with only a few returning players,” said Greenawalt. “Lots of newcomers who are learning but athletic. We feel like we are a team who can develop well over the season and play some good volleyball. We believe we will be playing in some meaningful games at end of season in District 11 2A tournament.”

Greenawalt thinks the team will be led by the likes of Tocci, Schultz, Cortes and Amrick this year.

“The goal is to improve our record from last season and win a district playoff game again,” he said.

The Hawks opened the season on Tuesday against Freedom.

Peter Tocci is back for the Hawks this season.
