1776 comes alive at Kempton Community Center April 11
Join the local Allemaengel 250 Committee as they set the stage with the daily life in 1776 stretching from the hotspot of Philadelphia out to the frontier, April 11 at the Kempton Community Center, rain or shine.
Doors open at noon.
Parking and all events are free to all concerned citizens… thanks to our many local patriotic event sponsors.
Food by the Community Center Kitchen will be available for purchase as well as tickets for a Pennsylvania German themed raffle.
Lectures are only a fragment of the event!
Michael Jesberger as Mr. US History, an independent military historian who specializes in the American Revolution and Civil War time periods will present to take us to Lexington and Concord as “The Conflict Ignites,” at 12:45 p.m.
The WK&S Railroad will run a free “Liberty Express” rides at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Engaged students from Northwestern Middle School under the guidance of instructor Pamela Peters, will mingle about their period tent village to share colonial lifestyle and activities.
Period patriotic songs will fill the air with the afternoon appearance by the Brandywine Colonials Fife and Drum Corps, joining local historical society members as they recreate the local temperature toward seeking freedom from the King, including a citizen reading of the Declaration of Independence.
Rifle volleys will fill the air as the 1st Pennsylvania Rifle Regiment presents the living history of the men of their line, camp life, drills, children’s drills and weather permitting, horning and rifle making demonstrations.
Hawk Mountain Sanctuary will present a “bird of prey” demonstration at 3:30 p.m.
Many photo ops will occur throughout the day long program; including a replica Liberty Bell.
There will be programs geared to all age levels.
At 6:30 p.m., there will be a hoe-down led by Keith Brintzenhoff.
This event is being sponsored by the special Allemaengel 250 Committee – comprised of members from the Albany, Lynn-Heidelberg and Weisenberg Lowhill Historical Societies.
