The District 11 champion Parkland High School boys basketball team got a big night from one of its seniors, Tyler Beck, in his final career home game last Saturday, propelling the Trojans to a 51-47 victory over the ninth seed from District One, Conestoga, in a PIAA First Round game at Parkland.

Beck finished with a career-high 23 points, including going 12-of-14 at the free-throw line, to pace the Trojans (23-6) offense, which made its mark in the first half, outscoring the Pioneers 23-15.

Parkland led 12-7 after the opening quarter and then used an 11-8 second quarter to go to halftime ahead by the 23-15 mark. Conestoga rallied out of the locker room and cut its deficit to one late in the third quarter and could have tied it following an and-one opportunity, but it missed the free throw and the game remained 30-29 in favor of the Trojans. Beck drained a 3-pointer to put the lead back to two possessions. A Nassim Adams steal and layup sent Parkland to the fourth quarter on top 37-29.

The Pioneers pulled to within 41-38 with a little over two minutes to go, but Beck once again answered the call and connected on a pair of free throws. Conestoga never got closer the rest of the way.

All of the fourth quarter scoring for the Trojans came from the line, as they went 14-for-24 in that final frame.

Adams finished with 13 points, going 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.

Parkland advanced to take on District 2 champion Delaware Valley in the second round Wednesday. It’s the third consecutive season the Trojans have reached the quarterfinal round.
