Falcon swimmers head to championships
Four Salisbury swimmers will compete in this weekend’s PIAA Class 2A Swimming and Diving Championships at Bucknell University Friday and Saturday.
Falcon seniors Phoebe Ballek and Olivia Amorim are making their fourth trip to states, while sophomore Caeden Amorim and freshman Xavier Reihman will make their first trip to the state meet.
After placing second in two individual events at districts, Ballek earned an at-large bid to states based on her times as only district champs earn automatic qualification into the state championship meet.
Ballek is seeded 13th in the 200 freestyle at states with a time of 1:57.85. She also holds the 20th seed in 500 free at 5:23.24.
Olivia Amorim also qualified for two events at this year’s state meet. She is seeded just a fraction of a second behind Ballek in the 200 free at 15th (1:58.25) after finishing third in the event at districts.
Caeden Amorim enters states as Salisbury’s only district champ after he won the breaststroke in 1:00.61 at districts. He is seeded 20th in that event and 20th in individual medley (2:02.76), an event in which he placed second at districts.
Reihman heads to Bucknell’s Kinney Natatorium as the 30th seed in the 200 freestyle with a seed Tim of 1:49.82.
Swimmers will compete in morning preliminary heats with the top eight finishers moving on to a championship final where all finishers earn a state medal. The next eight finishers compete in a consolation final where they can score points for their team but cannot earn a medal.
