Coplay Borough Council, at its meeting March 10, approved funding for a traffic study on Chestnut Street.
Acela Engineering will conduct a study to determine the location for a stop sign on Chestnut Street. The intersecting street will be decided after the results of the study, which will cost $9,750.
It is hoped the stop sign might prevent drivers from traveling at a high rate of speed on this roadway.
Recent crashes, involving vehicle rollovers, took place on Chestnut Street.
In other news, council approved the use of 165 Cherry St. as a Lehigh County polling facility for the May 19 primary election and Nov. 3 for the general election.
Council approved a request by the county’s juvenile probation division to use the borough gym 8 a.m.-4 p.m. April 23 and 30, May 1 and Sept. 17, 24 and 25.
Coplay Sports was approved to use the borough gym for a baseball parents meeting 1 p.m. March 22.
Council approved waiving the pavilion rental fee for Pediatric Cancer Foundation of Lehigh Valley for its annual fundraising run Sept. 19. The foundation will use the pavilion Sept. 17-21.
In police news, council approved Sheila Yudt-Gower as the full-time police secretary/coordinator, effective March 11.
Council will meet April 7, for a workshop, and April 14, for a regular meeting. Both are held 7 p.m. at borough hall, 98 S. Fourth St.
