Coaches give tourney predictions
It’s March Madness time, and three local boys’ basketball coaches have different views with some shared ones on what team will be crowned a national champion on April 6.
Here’s each of their Final Four selections as well as their perceptions of how things will go.
Veteran Catasauqua head coach Eric Snyder likes Duke, Purdue, Michigan, and Houston in the Final Four.

“Purdue has been number one from the beginning of the year and they are playing very well right now,” said Snyder. “And they will meet Duke in the final who has been on a roll since they lost in North Carolina.
“Houston will get to the Final Four because they got there last year. They had that game in the championship won, but they let it slip away.
“Duke wins it.”
Northampton head coach Matt Scholl has some similar thoughts with Snyder, as he likes Duke, Houston, Arizona, and Alabama in the Final Four.
“I am a Duke fan,” boasted Scholl. “I’m worried about Caleb Foster. I think they have a much tougher road if he can’t play. Their region is also the hardest in my opinion.
“Arizona’s been solid all year. If I wasn’t a Duke fan, I would pick them. Arizona ranks in the top 5 in both offensive and defensive efficiency so the recipe is there. ‘Bama is just kind of a flyer. They can put up points but I can also see them exiting early like they did in the SEC tournament. They are rested though. I’m a big fan of Kelvin Sampson. I love the way Houston plays defense. They traditionally have struggled offensively but they have been much better this year.
“Duke beats Arizona in the final.”
Whitehall head coach Jeff Jones had some different ideas than his constituents, liking UConn, Houston, Arizona, and Michigan.
“All four teams have been very good all season,” stated Jones. “UConn underachieved in the conference finals and will be hungry. Houston’s Coach Sampson is an elite coach. Arizona may have been the best team all year in a very tough conference. Michigan is my pick to win it all. They can score in multiple ways with good guards and bigs.”
Who’s your pick? Good luck!
