‘Once Upon A Mattress’ delights the crowds
Springhouse Middle School presented “Once Upon A Mattress: Youth Edition,” March 5-8 with special arrangement by Concord Theatricals.
“Once Upon A Mattress: Youth Edition is a one-hour adaptation of the beloved musical, designed for young performers,” according to Concord Theatricals.
“Many moons ago in a far-off place, Queen Aggravain decreed no couples could marry until her son, Prince Dauntless, found a bride. Princesses came from far and wide to win the hand of the prince, but none could pass the impossible tests given to them by the Queen. That is, until the “shy” swamp princess, Winnifred the Woebegone, showed up. Would she be able to pass the sensitivity test, marry her prince and help Lady Larken and Sir Harry to the altar? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, hilarious, raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the classic tale “The Princess and the Pea” provides some sidesplitting shenanigans. After all, a princess is a delicate thing,” according to Concord Theatricals.
The play, with lyrics by Marshall Barer and music by Mary Rodgers was directed by Erica Silver. She was also the musical director. Stage crew director was Jessica Reitnauer and choreographer was Pattie Winn. The theater club adviser is Kelsey Binder.

“Once Upon a Mattress is a story about how sometimes what you are looking for arrives in unexpected ways. “Principal Dr. Jude Sandt complimented the cast on their beautiful vocal harmonies and Parkland Arts Director Dr. Renee Mosser was impressed with the clean and coordinated dancing in the show,” Silver said.
“The production included 39 cast members and 17 student crew members including tech crew (lights/sound), run crew and art crew.
“Students performed for around 200 audience members at each of the four performances.”
