LHS aims to be in mix for another title
Liberty’s boys tennis team competed in a daylong scrimmage on March 7 in preparation for the 2026 season when the defending district champions took on Abington Heights and Dallastown, both district champs as well, along with Central Bucks South, one of the top teams in Pennsylvania.
“We competed,” said Liberty coach Chris Conrad. “We played very well today.”
As of March 7, lineups are uncertain for the Hurricanes’ season opener this week.
Adverse weather conditions and a one-week practice allowance had resulted in limited challenge matches for the Hurricanes, needing to move indoors to get ready for the regular season.
So, despite having a team of 38-40 players, Coach Conrad hasn’t seen 20 players because of inadequate court space.
Liberty’s No. 3 singles spot is the only lock, held by team newcomer Liam Bulman, a junior.
“He’s a thinker,” said Conrad. “You can see how he’s implementing training within the match.”
Training, in fact, has been Conrad’s focus leading up to this week. Then, as the season unfolds, the more play for his Hurricanes, the better, having lined up 17 or 18 matches.
Junior Luke D’Angelo and sophomore Eric Peterson are in the running for the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots.
“I don’t know my doubles pairs,” Conrad said, “but I’m trying a mixture of (seniors) Finn Brown, Thomas Horvath, Connor Terefinko, and Gio Piccini, (junior) Aneesh Tumma, and (sophomore) Sean Haas.
“We’ve been fortunate to win the last seven of eight district championships. This team can challenge for another, but we’ll have stiff competition. There’s Parkland and Emmaus, but Easton will be challenging too. We always want to be in the running. We’re going to compete and see what happens.”
