BC boys looking to make the playoffs

Bethlehem Catholic’s boys tennis team is returning almost all of its lineup from last season, but with just enough players to have a complete roster, returning head coach Dan Arkans will still welcome new additions to the Golden Hawks’ squad.

Senior Liam Maloney will reprise his role at No. 1 singles, and junior Kendryk Silva will resume his role at No. 2 singles.

Former No. 2 doubles player, junior Derrick Hartman, will play at No. 3 singles.

Junior Ralston Rowlands will team up with sophomore Kolby Mease at No. 2 doubles.

Juniors Joey Maigur and Nico Massa will move up from No. 4 doubles to No. 3 doubles.

Juniors Brady Jones and Connor Gillahan will represent the Hawks at No. 4 doubles.

“They’re all improved from where they were last year, but I don’t know how far that takes us,” said Coach Arkans. “We didn’t make playoffs last year, so that’s a goal.”

Arkans sees Parkland, Liberty, Emmaus, and Nazareth as this year’s top teams.

“Northampton, Pleasant Valley, and Stroudsburg should be toss-ups,” he said. “Palisades should be competitive. We should win Whitehall and Pocono Mountain West.”

Pocono Mountain West didn’t have a boys team last year.

The Hawks will rely heavily on singles for wins as Becahi’s doubles are either new pairings or moving up in positions.

“Our first four matches will be rough, but after we get through those, we should be good,” said Arkans.

Becahi is scheduled to host Easton on March 13.

“I don’t know how good Easton is,” Arkans said. “We won last year and lost the year before, so we should have good matches.”
