Russel L. Schantz

of Emmaus

Russel L. Schantz, 85, of Emmaus, died peacefully March 3, 2026, at Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the husband of Sandra R. (Grill) Schantz, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Born in Hosensack, Pa., he was the son of the late Lester and Pauline (Lichtenwalner) Schantz.

He was a lifelong farmer whose dedication to the land reflected his steady work ethic, humility and deep-rooted faith.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Macungie, where he joyfully sang in the choir since he was 10 years old. He also plowed snow at the church for 25 years.

He was a founding member and later member emeritus of the Macungie Minstrelaires, sharing his voice and fellowship with the community.

He was also a member of the Macungie Grange and participated in FFA during his years at Upper Perkiomen High School, interests that reflected his lifelong commitment to agriculture.

In recognition of his generous spirit, he was honored as Volunteer of the Year by Good Shepherd, and a star was named in his honor. He volunteered at the Das Awkscht Fescht and Wheels of Time for many years. He was a Phillies and NASCAR fan and didn’t miss watching the games or races. He was a longtime supporter of Shamrock women’s softball while his wife was playing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Dana, wife of Robert Clauser, Lynn, wife of Scott Geschel; grandchildren, Lauren, wife of Robert Marra, Linsey, wife of Dan Nicholas, Kaylee, wife of Benjamin Kerchner, Merritt Geschel, Matthew Geschel; great-grandchildren, Samuel, Adalyn, Sadie; sister, Phyllis, wife of Harold Serfass Jr.; sister-in-law, Diane; nieces; nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Warren.

Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus is entrusted with arrangements.
