CHS Drama Club brings ‘Seussical’ to life
Catasauqua High School Drama Club is excited to present its next musical performance. “Seussical” follows favorite Dr. Seuss characters from the Jungle of Nool to the invisible world of the Whos.
Performances will be 7 p.m. March 13, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. March 14 and 2 p.m. March 15 in the auditorium at CHS, 2500 W. Bullshead Road, Allen Township.
With music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, book by Ahrens and Flaherty, and co-conceived by Eric Idle, the musical is based on the illustrated books of Dr. Seuss. The 2000 Broadway production received one Tony Award nomination.
Production numbers include “Oh, the Thinks You Can Think,” “Alone in the Universe,” “It’s Possible,” “Notice Me Horton,” “Amazing Mayzie” and “How Lucky You Are.”
The cast of the Catasauqua production includes Amberlynn Faust (Cat in the Hat), Annette Saint-Amand (Jojo), Greg-Anthony Rodriguez (Horton the Elephant), Lucinda Loftus (Gertrude McFuzz), Mya Aviles (Mayzie LaBird), Alisha Perez-Porrata (Sour Kangaroo), Christopher Wellington (Wickersham 1), Anyya Rodriguez (Bird Girl 1), Andre Miller (Mr. Mayor), Jillian LaPointe (Mrs. Mayor), Diomar Quezada (General Gengus Khan Schmitz), Jeremiah Wedderburn (Yertle the Turtle) and Kaylin Stewart (Vlad Vladikoff).
Understudies are Kayla Davis (Cat in the Hat), Brielle Cunningham (Jojo), Cassius Estronza (Horton the Elephant), Kaylin Stewart (Mayzie LaBird), Mariah Lewis (Sour Kangaroo), Jeremiah Wedderburn (Mr. Mayor), Hannah Decker (Mrs. Mayor), Andre Miller (Yertle the Turtle) and Mya Aviles (Vlad Vladikoff).
Additional cast members include Cassius Estronza, Kayla Davis, Carrera Wellington and Kira Kiel as Wickersham Brothers; Madison Monberger and Mya Diaz as Bird Girls; Destiny Falk as The Grinch; Shakala Roberts as Thing 1; Jessica Mankos as Thing 2; Alexandria Penn, Seamus Deibert, Kamila Estronza, Eva Zimmerman, Hannah Decker, Karissa Miller, Brielle Cunningham, Mariah Lewis and Margaret Pierson as Cadets; and Carrera Wellington, Kira Kiel, Cassius Estronza, Jeremiah Wedderburn, Kaylin Stewart, Mya Aviles, Alexandria Penn, Madison Monberger, Mya Diaz, Anyya Rodriguez and Lucinda Loftus as Fish.
Director John Leiderman is aided by director/choreographer Marissa Brewer and orchestra director Robert Arnold. Set design and construction is by Mike Sanders, and the costume designer is Marissa Brewer. Lighting and sound is provided by Center Stage Lighting and Sound with sound board operator Chris Connelly and light board operator Gavin Maule. The spotlight operators are Von Ezekiel Cervantes and Brooke Barna. Brenden Takacs is the stage crew leader.
The pit orchestra includes, Michaela Madaio, Josequel Guerro, James D’Annibale, Steffani Smith, Bryan Gerhab, Tim Cramer, Greg Snider, Ben Stefan, Chris Pulli, Teagan Edsell, Grace Young, Tom Shearer, Stan Griffis and Mackenzie Brobst.
