John F. Simock

Melvin Jones Fellow

John F. Simock, 89, of Neffs, died March 9, 2026, at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of the late Gloria E. (Diehl) Simock. Born in Schnecksville, he was the son of the late John and Emma I. (Agats) Simock.

He was the founder and president of John F. Simock, Inc. General Contractor, in Neffs for 35 years before retiring in 1999. He developed four housing developments and built many homes and commercial buildings throughout the Lehigh Valley. He was a member of Associated Builders and Contractors in Allentown and Lehigh Valley Builders Association.

Active in the life of his community and church, he was a member of Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, where he was an elder, serving two terms on the consistory, and a property chairman for 25 years. He spearheaded the fundraising efforts to restore the 1872 pipe organ, and was a trustee and chairperson of the Funds of Lasting Gifts for the congregation. He and his family were instrumental in the lighting of the beautiful church steeple that serves as a “Beacon of Hope” for all who see it.

He served as a bank director of The Neffs National Bank and Neffs Bancorp, Inc., the bank’s holding company from 1997 to 2021.

In 1988-1989, he served as president of the Upper Lehigh Lions Club, Schnecksville where he was named a “Melvin Jones Fellow” by the Lions Clubs International Foundation in recognition of his dedicated humanitarian services.

He was an avid hunter and especially enjoyed having his family and friends at the cabin in Sullivan County.

In his later years, he and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the United States in their motor home and many memorable cruises that created long-lasting friendships.

He is survived by a daughter, Lisa K. Reitz (Michael Gremling), of New Jersey; son, Richard J. “Rick” (Caroline), of Neffs; grandsons, Scott (Carlie), Jason (Lindsay), Jarrod Reitz; great-grandchildren, Haven Marie Reitz, Alvey Richard, Ziggy River, Aria Allison, Maverick Theodore; sister, Carol A. Rex, of New Mexico, Marlene, of Schnecksville, Patricia Swercheck, of Slatington, Robert J., of Orefield, Dale (Polly), of South Carolina; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Delores M. Rader and a brother, Ronald R.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. March 17, at Union U.C.C., 5550 Route 873, Neffs, with the Rev. Kris P. Snyder officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects 9:30-10:50 a.m. before to the service.
