Book highlights Riley’s rides

Traveling dog often spotted in sidecar, at community events

Sidecardog Riley’s adventures continue in Northampton, throughout the Lehigh Valley and beyond. Many people have seen Riley riding in the sidecar with his “dad” Jim Shelanick — and that sight puts a smile on their face.

The duo can be seen throughout towns, in the mountains and down by rivers and streams.

Riley has many local fans who can read about him in “Sidecardog Riley and His Great Adventures,” the second book written by local author Erin Ferguson. The book follows Riley’s adventures at Jordan Creek, a covered bridge, a mountain top and other scenic locations. It also describes interactions he has had with employees at local businesses.

In addition, readers will learn interesting facts about Goldendoodles along the way.

A few years ago, Shelanick had the idea to write a book. A mutual friend contacted Ferguson to introduce them, and the project was underway. Shelanick provided the information along with the photos, and in a three-month time period, Ferguson had written the text and compiled the book. It can be purchased on Amazon.

Riley and Shelanick will be visiting Northampton Area School District’s Borough Elementary Schools March 25 to read the book to students. They will be at the Franklin building 9 a.m. and then at Siegfried 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
