“9 to 5: The Musical” punches the clock at 7 p.m. March 18, 19, 20, 21; 2 p.m. March 22, Theater, Lehigh Valley Charter HS for the Arts, 321 E. Third St., Bethlehem.
Director Kelly Minner-Bickert is assisted by Choreographer Jennifer Weaver, Music Director Erica Dickson, Orchestra Conductor Joseph Bucci, Technical Director Ellen Schmoyer, Scenic & Lighting Designer Ellen Schmoyer, Costume Designer Amy Handkammer, Sound Designer Carlo Acerra and Stage Manager L Imhof.
Three office coworkers, Violet Newstead, Doralee Rhodes and Judy Bernley, working under oppressive conditions at Consolidated Industries, decide to rebel against their domineering and lecherous boss.
The musical, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, is based on the 1980 film of the same title by Colin Higgins and Resnick. Orchestration is by Bruce Coughlin, with arrangements and additional orchestrations by Stephen Oremus and Alex Lacamoire.
Produced by Robert Greenblatt, the musical opened on Broadway in 2009, receiving four Tony Award nominations.
Notable songs include “9 to 5,” “Backwoods Barbie,” “Shine Like the Sun,” “Get Out and Stay Out” and “One of the Boys.”
