$300K for new emergency radios

State Senator Nick Miller and Representative Steve Samuelson made a special delivery to Hanover Township Northampton County Feb. 10, delivering a $292,581 Local Share Account check so the township can update its emergency communications by purchasing digital radios.

The presentation was made at a regular meeting of the Hanover Township Board of Commissioners.

The new radios will integrate with Northampton County’s updated communications center. and replaced outdated UHF radio technology says Hanover Township Volunteer Fire Department chief Scott VanWhy.

“It’s a significant project,” says Samuelson who noted that $92,581 was approved in May of 2025 and the remaining $200,000 was approved in December 2025.

“We did our job in Harrisburg,” says Miller who said both he and Samuelson advocated for the allocations. “It took teamwork with our delegations and township officials,” he added.

Fire Chief VanWhy says the new digital radios will be installed in ambulances and fire service vehicles, and provide portability for public safety staff.

The Northampton-Monroe Counties Local Share Account provided $92,581 which comes from the gaming revenue locally and the $200,000 comes from state-wide gaming revenue.

The local share grant in the amount of $292, 581 will be used to purchase digital radios for installation in 3 township ambulances and 9 fire service vehicles.
