Orefield Middle School presents ‘The Music Man JR.’

The Orefield Middle School Theatre Department, under the direction of Sydney Sniezek, will present its spring play, “The Music Man JR.” 7 p.m. March 5-7 with a 2 p.m. matinee March 7.

According to Music Theatre International, “Based on Meredith Willson’s six-time-Tony-Award-winning musical comedy, ‘The Music Man JR.’ features some of musical theatre’s most iconic songs and a story filled with wit, warmth and good old-fashioned romance. ‘The Music Man JR.’ is family entertainment at its best – a bold, brassy show that will have the whole town atwitter!

“Master showman Harold Hill is in town and he’s got ‘76 trombones’ in tow. Can upright, uptight Marian, the town librarian, resist his powerful allure?

The story follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys band he vows to organize. The catch? He doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, whose belief in Harold’s power just might help him succeed in the end despite himself.”

The production will be presented at the school, 2675 Route 309, Orefield.

The Press was invited to a dress rehearsal where all the actors sported costumes reminiscent of the late 19th century.

Cadence Adams plays Marian Paroo, the librarian. Her nemesis, at least at first, is Harold Hill played by Edan Silver. Ayla Johnson is Eulalie Mackecknie Shinn to Arlen Bello Ramos as Mayor George Shinn. Rio Hedwig is Constable Locke and Calvin Plets is Tommy Djilas.

The School Board Quartet performers are Layla Kish, Ted Tharammal, Callie Boscia, and Gwyneth Hahn.
