Development at Krocks Road and Route 222 Bypass approved

The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners met for its regularly scheduled meeting Feb. 19. The first topic was to approve Resolution 2026-05, a change in restricted hours for a restaurant at 6776 Hamilton Boulevard. The restaurant wants to expand times to include hours for breakfast and to change the time to 11 p.m. on Thursdays. The township is working with the neighbors behind the area. This was approved.

Resolution 2026-06, the Lower Macungie Mixed Use Development LLC land development at 617 N. Krocks Road became the topic of discussion over traffic issues as well as pedestrian concerns. Of major concern is the intersection of the Bypass (Route 222) and Krocks Road.

Board President Ron Beitler said his major concern is the intersection and pedestrian safety. He said this intersection is critically failing and a major area of accidents within the Lehigh Valley. Beitler further said he will not vote in favor of this project. It’s a matter of public welfare and safety.

Board Vice President Wesley Barrett also spoke about the development. He said “he doesn’t feel good about it but is aware it would be a waste of taxpayers money to fight it.”

Through further issues with this development, it was suggested to add another Lanta bus stop. This development was approved in 2023 and will have 318 apartments, clubhouse, hotel and retail area.

This project is also suggesting a traffic light be installed on Cetronia and Krocks roads. This is an Upper Macungie issue. Right of way is part of this part of the project. Neighborhoods of the area are not particularly in favor of this.

The commissioners voted on this project. The vote was 4-1 with Beitler voting no.

Approval was made for Volunteer Service Earned Income Tax Credit for 32 volunteers.
