Celebrating Read Across America at SES

Students at Salisbury Elementary School are in the midst of celebrating Read Across America with fun activities and lots of books.

On March 4, the focus is on Career Day inviting students to dress to reflect their future career. On March 5, students will dress as twins or wear crazy socks and the week will conclude March 6 with a day to wear their favorite color. The celebration doesn’t have to stop there – read something everyday!

Mark your calendars 1-4 p.m. March 8 for the SES PTO Purse Bingo at Salisbury Middle School, 3301 Devonshire Road. Doors open 11:45 a.m. and advance tickets are available at salisburypto.membershiptoolkit.com/. The event includes a basket raffle, 50/50 drawing along with food, drinks and desserts.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for the next free technology workshop from the Salisbury Township School District technology department. The workshop entitled “Sharing Moments & Memories: Intro. To Google Photos, Slides & Meet” will be offered 9:30-10:30 a.m. March 11. Participants will learn how to turn memories into a simple slideshow presentation using Google Slides and connect with loved ones using Google Meet video calls. This is a beginner-friendly class for community members new to technology and will take place in the administration building, 1140 Salisbury Road, Allentown. The Susquehanna Diner, 1701 Susquehanna St., will hold a “Dine and Donate” event to benefit the Salisbury Music Association 2-9 p.m. March 5. Proceeds will support the marching band and in-school music programs. Dine in and take-out orders are eligible but delivery app orders are not included in the event.

The Ladies Aid Society of Jerusalem Salisbury Church will hold an indoor yard sale 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 7. Donated items will be accepted 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 6. Donations of baked goods on the day of the event are also welcomed.

It’s never too early to start planning for summer activities for kids and registration for the Wildlands Conservancy’s summer camps at the Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary is ongoing. To register, visit wildlandspa.org/camp and save 10% if you register by April 1.

Keeping with the same vein of planning for summer, Salisbury Township is accepting applications for part-time seasonal playground counselors for the summer playground program. The program runs mid-June to late July 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday evenings. Students who are at least 16 years of age and can provide their own transportation are invited to apply. Applications can be submitted in person at the Salisbury Township Municipal Building, 2900 S. Pike Ave., Allentown or via email at info@salisburylehighpa.gov. All applications must be received by April 1.

On March 19 at the Emmaus Public Library, a special program entitled Hawk Mountain Birds of Prey will be presented 6:30-7:30 p.m. Three different raptors will visit the library and ambassadors from Hawk Mountain will explain Hawk Mountain history as well as raptor identification, migration and adaptations. The event is free and you can register at emmauspl.org/calendar.
