At the March 2 North Catasauqua Borough Council meeting, it was announced the borough is seeking vendors, crafters, community organizations, law enforcement agencies and other partners for Community Day, to be held 5-8 p.m. May 29 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St. If interested in participating, you can call or email the borough office at 610-264-1504 or office@northcatasauqua.org.
The meeting agenda was amended to add the approval to advertise a hearing regarding the petition by borough residents to have Ridge Street ordained. The public hearing and decision will occur at the April 6 meeting. The purpose of the petition is to have a section of the street borough-owned and for it to take over maintenance.
Mayor William J. Molchany Jr. announced a basket raffle and bingo will be held April 15 at Catasauqua American Legion Post 215, 330 Second St., as a fundraiser for the J4 Celebration in July. Doors open noon, and the games begin 1 p.m. As another fundraiser for the event, T-shirts will be sold. J4 organizers are looking for sponsors and fundraising. If interested, contact the borough office.
During Secretary Tasha Jandrisovits’ report, council approved a recycling event for May 12 at the borough public works building, 1460 Main St. The time has not yet been decided.
Catasauqua Youth Soccer Association was approved to hold practices and games 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 9:30-11:20 a.m. Saturdays from April 18 to June 13 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park. A valid certificate of insurance was provided.
Council approved two requests from police Chief Christopher Wolfer — annual memberships for both Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 1033 program for $600 and for International Association of Chiefs of Police for $220.
Regarding the Polaris UTV vehicle, Wolfer said he may be able to find a warranty with another company for a cheaper cost. Council will wait until more information to make a decision.
In the solicitor report, Attorney Stephanie Steward detailed the revisions made to the handicap ordinance and traffic and parking ordinances. Council will vote to advertise it at the next meeting.
Council will next meet 7 p.m. March 16 at borough hall, 1066 Fourth St.
