Egg hunt set for March 28

During the Feb. 16 North Catasauqua Borough Council meeting, fire Chief Roger Scheirer announced the annual Easter egg hunt is set for noon March 28, with a rain date of March 29, at Catasauqua Park and Playground, 501 American St. The event is a joint effort between the North Catasauqua and Catasauqua fire departments.
Council gave approval to police Chief Christopher Wolfer for Cpl. Steven Santiago to attend a Blue Shield Tactical Systems defense course in July for $500.
Regarding the new Polaris UTV the borough recently acquired, council discussed extended warranty options, as much as $1,180 for six months to $3,990 for 54 months. The current vehicle and a six-month warranty were fully covered by a grant.
Council requested Wolfer research further to see how long the vehicle lasts, when they start to have issues, etc. Council is expected to make a decision at an upcoming meeting and before April 21.
Councilman Scott Holmes mentioned a concern regarding the tax collector’s hours and challenges getting in touch with her. The solution for this is to have the solicitor reach out and set up a meeting.
In her office report, Secretary Tasha Jandrisovits reviewed the current pensions plans, disability and life insurance the borough has with New York Life. Council conducted an overall review at this meeting and will continue discussions in the meetings ahead. Council may decide to go out for bids for a new company in the future.
Also in her report, the names of grants, and for which departments, being sought for 2027 were discussed. Council wants to make sure the departments are not competing with each other for the same grant. Council discussed what its priorities currently are for seeking grants.
Council gave approval, during the treasurer report, for Tricia Tillman to make contracts for 2026 with Weeds Inc. and Tru Green for weed control, fertilizer, grub prevention, playground mulch and ball field dirt at the borough complex and park. The total for both companies is $5,606.
Reached after the meeting, Jandrisovits said the police community day is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. May 29 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St.
Council will next meet 7 p.m. March 16 at borough hall, 1066 Fourth St.
