BETHLEHEM AREA

EARLY DISMISSAL: All BASD schools will have an early dismissal on March 12. HS: 11 a.m., MS: 11:30 a.m., ES noon.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION: The BASD will host in-person kindergarten registration events across the city to make registering easy, welcoming and supportive for families. These events give families the opportunity to register their child for kindergarten, meet school staff, district teams and community partners, get help with the registration process and ask questions and connect one-on-one. For many families, this is their first interaction with BASD.

March 11 at FHS from 4 to 7 p.m.; April 16 at The Hispanic Center in South Bethlehem from 6 to 8 p.m.; May 13 at Nitschmann MS from noon to 2 p.m. To register visit basdschools.org.

READING ACTIVITIES: Read Across American begins March 2. Check your school’s webpage at Basdschools.org for special activities and celebrations happening throughout the week.

JAZZ FESTIVAL: Northeast MS’s 20th annual event Friday, March 5 will feature outstanding student musicians from across the region, including: Broughal MS, Nitschmann MS, Northeast MS, Saucon Valley MS SVSD, Springhouse Middle School Parkland SD. In addition, both the FHS and Liberty HS jazz ensembles will perform between each middle school group during onstage transitions. The festival kicks off at 6 p.m. with FHS performing The Star-Spangled Banner. Families are encouraged to attend and support the young performers.

SPRING SPORTS: If you are planning to play a spring sport, please make sure physical forms are submitted. Visit your school’s website for additional details.

SCHOOL REPORT: The Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the BASD, will host the 2026 State of the Schools Thursday, March 12 at ArtsQuest, bringing together business, education and community leaders for an important conversation on workforce development, career pathways and the future talent pipeline.
