Union Lutheran to celebrate 25 years at new building

Union Lutheran Church, 5500 Route 873, Schnecksville, will celebrate 25 years of worship in the current building 9 a.m. March 1.

Although the congregation traces its beginning to 1795, most of those years the group shared a building with Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, formerly the Reformed Church.

Union Lutheran Church’s Pastor Gordon Camp recalls the excitement of moving to the new facility in March 1999. “Twenty-five years ago, this community did something both simple and bold. On that first Sunday, worship began in the old church, filled with familiar sights and sacred memories.

“Then in a moment many still recall with emotion, the congregation packed up, stepped outside and walked together across the cemetery, carrying worship from one space to another,” Camp said.

“The service concluded in the new building – a powerful sign that God was not finished with this community but was calling it forward. That day marked more than the dedication of a building. It marked a season of trust, hope and shared vision,” Camp said.

Bishop Christopher deForest will be guest preacher for the anniversary celebration as he helps members reflect not only on the past but look forward to a promising future.

Former pastors Dennis Moore and Jami Possinger, who were present during the building’s construction and early years of worship there, will be present.

“They will share memories from that time and help us reconnect with the courage and faith that shaped this chapter of our story,” Camp said.

All of the Union Lutheran choirs and a brass quartet will participate.
