Trojans top PV, fall to EHS

With just one regular season match left on Parkland’s schedule, the Trojans appear to have come short of qualifying of the District 11 3A team duals this weekend at Freedom High School.

The Trojans (9-6 overall; 4-4 in East Penn Conference), who capped their regular season against East Stroudsburg South on Wednesday, split a pair of conference matches last week.

After a 47-20 win at Pleasant Valley last Wednesday, Parkland came up short against Emmaus the following evening, 43-20. That loss dealt the Trojans a big blow toward their goals of qualifying for the district team duals.

Parkland won six of the nine contested bouts against Pleasant Valley, five of which came via technical fall. Luis Moya opened the match with a technical fall over Frank Lucarello, 21-6, at 107 pounds. After a forfeit win in the next bout—one of three forfeits for Parkland—Ricardo Rivera picked up another technical fall two bouts later. His 15-0 win over Jimmy Stipeck of Pleasant Valley put the Hornets ahead, 16-3.

Parkland won the next six bouts to take a commanding 47-3 lead. After a forfeit win at 133 pounds, Jared Santilli (139 pounds) won by technical fall over Zach Jochen, 21-5 in the next match. Another forfeit at 145 put the Trojans ahead 33-3 before Colton Vitale secured a major decision win at 152 pounds, taking down Patrick Decker, 18-9.

Jorge Moya and Donta Ciampittiello capped the Trojans’ six-match win streak with technical fall victories at 160 and 172 pounds, respectively. Moya first took down James Cordle, 19-3, while Ciampittiello topped Benjamin Jochen, 19-4.

In the 43-20 loss to Emmaus, Parkland won four matches and jumped out to an early 11-0 lead after wins by Luis Moya and Braden Todora at 107 and 114 pounds, respectively. Moya’s technical fall over Andrew Gerken, 17-2, got Parkland on the scoreboard first. Then, Todora pinned Levi Max in 54 seconds for a quick Trojan lead.

Parkland, however, would only win two more matches the rest of the way. Velez topped Jackson Max via a 6-4 decision at 139 pounds to snap a three-match skid for the Trojans. Their next win wouldn’t come for seven matches when Myles Lysek pinned Logan Roth in 3:28 at 285 pounds.

While Parkland came up short on qualifying for the district team duals, their season isn’t over quite yet. The Trojans will compete in the District 11 3A Championships on February 20 and 21 at Liberty High School.
