Salisbury wrestlers compete in Coal Cracker Tourney
The Salisbury wrestling team competed in the Coal Cracker Invitational this past weekend at Lehighton High School, with the Falcons placing 33rd as a team out of the 56 competing squads.
Four Falcons won their first two matches.
Michael Segata led the way at 160 pounds by going 3-2 over the two-day event. He opened the tournament with a quick pin over Panther Valley’s Cameron Rolon in 45 seconds, and then pinned his next opponent, Williams Valley’s David Dotson, in just 41 seconds. After a loss in the next round, Segata pinned Pocono Mountain West’s Cameron Cozze in 2:18 before bowing out in the next round against Athens’ Ryan Howard.
Jarrod Blunt (133 pounds), Colton Tone (172) and Sam Krauss (285) all picked up two early wins by fall. Blunt first took down Oxford’s Manuel Santos in 49 seconds, and then followed that up with another dominant win by fall, pinning Germantown Academy’s Kelly Corson in 1:39. Blunt then dropped his next two matches.
Tone secured two wins by fall in the second period to open the tournament. He first took down Mid Valley’s Adam Pezanowski in 3:30 in his first match, and then pinned Lehighton’s Carter Hontz in 3:53 the next time he took the mat. Tone’s run came to an end after suffering a pin and major decision loss in back-to-back matches.
Krauss wasted little time picking up his first two wins either. Krauss pinned Jim Thorpe’s Lucas Knopf in 31 seconds for his opening-round win. Then, it took only 27 seconds for Krauss to pin Wallenpaupack’s Rocco Emilio in his next match before coming up short in his final two bouts.
Jordan Tocci-Wachter had to take a slightly different route. After losing his opening-round match at 152 pounds, he responded with two convincing wins of his own.
Tocci-Wachter first pinned Lehighton’s Dayton Moyer in 1:14, then followed that up with another win by fall over Crestwood’s Hunter Konschnik in the second period.
Salisbury will host the Salisbury Pooled Duals on Saturday, Feb. 7.
The Falcons will compete against Panther Valley, Archbishop Wood, Dieruff, Mid Valley and Wilkes-Barre.
