Rover girls top Trojans, 44-39

The Parkland High School girls basketball team split a pair of Eastern Pennsylvania Conference games last week, one at home and one on the road.

The Trojans began the week with a 43-33 loss to Easton last Tuesday, Jan. 13, but followed that with a 44-39 victory at Dieruff on Thursday.

In the game with the Red Rovers, it was back-and-forth nearly the whole way.

Parkland trailed 11-9 after the opening quarter, 20-16 at halftime and 31-26 following three quarters. Cheryllana Cunningham led the Trojans with nine points, connecting on two 3-pointers.

Aneri McGalla finished with eight points, also draining two 3-pointers. Isabella Hallal recorded five points and both Carly Spang and Savannah Gonzalez scored four points. Arielle Brown rounded out the scoring with three points.

In the win against the Huskies, the Trojans jumped ahead early and led 28-17 at halftime. They 38-23 after three and then held on in the fourth quarter.

Cunningham tallied 14 points to pace the offense and Hallal added 10 points. McGalla netted eight points, joining Cunningham with two 3-pointers.

Brown contributed six points and Addison Fritzinger had three points. Morgan Volpe finished with two points and Spang rounded out the scoring with one point.

Parkland, which is now 11-4 overall and 9-2 in the conference, was at Allen this past Tuesday night and concludes the week by hosting Whitehall on Friday night. The Trojans are at Central Catholic next Tuesday night.
