Parkland wrestling team takes down Freedom

After a close 32-28 setback against Whitehall in its first East Penn Conference match of 2026, Parkland rebounded a week later.

The Trojans (8-5 overall; 3-3 in EPC) won nine of the 13 bouts during last Wednesday’s match against Freedom, topping the Patriots 42-23 to improve to .500 in conference competition.

Parkland scored bonus points in seven of those wins, including two via fall.

Parkland won the first six bouts to jump out to a 27-0 lead, an advantage that would never be threatened. Maddox Burke picked up a technical fall over Anthony Haas, 15-0, at 107 pounds in the opening match to get the scoring started.

Luis Moya and Braden Todora then each won by technical fall at 114 and 121 pounds, respectively, to push Parkland’s lead to 15-0.

Moya’s 21-5 technical fall over Jack Scanlan came in the third period, while Todora picked up his technical fall over Shane Getz, 17-2, midway through the first period.

Moya and Todora both picked up their 26th win of the season against Freedom.

Parkland’s first test came at 127 pounds, but Chase Kruk was able to outlast Michael Messa, 9-6, to push the Trojans’ lead to 18-0.

Matthew Velez then pinned Shane Naylor in just 15 seconds at 133 pounds, and Jared Santilli capped the six-match win streak with a 3-1 decision over Samuel Kurtz.

The Trojans dropped the next three matches at 145, 152 and 160 pounds, allowing Freedom to cut the deficit to 27-17 with four matches remaining. But Parkland went on to win the next three bouts—all relatively easily—to regain momentum.

Jorge Moya picked up Parkland’s second pin of the match, taking down Marvin Rodriguez at 172 pounds in 48 seconds to take a 33-17 lead.

Jayden Santiago increased the Trojans’ lead even more with a technical fall over Thomas Crisafulli, 20-3, at 189 pounds. And Jason Brubacher’s 13-1 major decision over Mikherlange Champagne at 215 pounds capped the Trojans’ scoring on the night.

Results from Wednesday’s match against Pleasant Valley were not available at time of press.

Parkland will next face rival Emmaus on Thursday at Emmaus High School for a 7 p.m. match.
