Morgan reaches milestone

Kendra Morgan is one of those student athletes that would succeed in just about any sport.

She has done it in three sports at Salisbury High School.

In track and field, Morgan finished fourth in the 100- and 200-meter dash at districts and will compete as a sprinter at West Chester.

This past fall she was a key member of the field hockey team that won its first District 11 championship. In winter she’s been the top scorer on the Falcon girls basketball team the past three seasons.

Morgan passed the 1,000-point plateau for the Lady Falcons basketball team in a 47-35 win against Southern Lehigh last week with a season-high 28 points in the game. On the season she averaged 15.5 points per game for the Falcons, who wrapped up their season Saturday with a win over Pen Argyl.

Coming into her high school career on the basketball court, Morgan knew that she wanted to be a big contributor and for her, one of the goals was to score 1,000 points.

“I’ve always wanted it,” she said. “I always reach for the stars and definitely set things really high. I thought that was something very high and knowing that I reached it is definitely amazing and very exciting.

While Salisbury has had its share of struggles on the court, Morgan has always found positives and continue to reach for her goal while looking to help raise the rest of the team. After a strong start to the season, Salisbury finished 10-12 overall and 7-11 in league play, missing out on a district playoff berth by one win.

“I think we gave everything that we could,” said Morgan. “I really appreciate our coaches; they’re amazing. They really pushed us through it and we made it. To win the last game and finish on a little bit of a winning streak is pretty good for all that we went through this season.”

The team started the season with just eight players on the roster. In a few late season games it had just five players available. One thing the short roster provided was opportunities for players to get some time on the court to gain varsity experience.

“Our younger players did really well and they worked hard,” said Morgan. “It’s a tough situation because some of them had to play bigger roles than they were really ready to play, but they all worked hard.”

In all three of her sports, Morgan left a mark on the teams and is proud of the things that she has been able to do.

“I’ve made a lot of great friends and really great memories here,” Morgan said. “It’s been great to be able to compete in different sports and to be a part of something special like with field hockey when we won districts this season.

“It took a lot of work to play three sports and do well academically, but it was worth it. It’s hard to believe that it’s coming to an end.”
