LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Falcons get revenge, top SV twice

Just as the high school basketball season looked to wrap up, snow and ice hit the Lehigh Valley area to put a temporary stop to the schedule. Salisbury’s game at Pen Argyl was postponed from Monday until next Wednesday and will now be the finale to the regular season for the Falcons.

In their second meeting of the season against Saucon Valley, the Falcons jumped out to a 27-14 lead at halftime and then relied on their defense to hold down a second-half rally by the Panthers for a 48-42 win.

The victory gives the Falcons wins in both regular season games against Saucon Valley, which beat the Falcons four times last season. The Panthers won’t be in the postseason this year.

Drew Petrie led all scorers with 17 points in the win over Saucon Valley and Garrett Leiner added another 10. Salisbury hit seven three-point shots in the game with Petrie getting three, Leiner hitting on two, and both Steven Lozada and Bryan Gonzalez getting one in the win.

The Falcons added four more three-pointers against Catasauqua. Gonzalez led the pack with two and Leiner and Julian Makhoul both had one in the 55-39 win. Makhoul was the high scorer in the game with 17 points. Lozada had 11 and Leiner finished with 10 for Salisbury.

The Falcons currently hold the top spot in the District 11 4A classification for playoff seeding.

If another team were to win its league championship though, it could receive preferential treatment in the rankings and move ahead of Salisbury if the Falcons do not also win a league title.

In the Colonial League standings, Salisbury heads into this week tied with Northwestern for second with both teams 1 ½ games behind Notre Dame – Green Pond for the top spot. Salisbury holds the tiebreaker against Northwestern Lehigh by virtue of having defeated them during the regular season.

The schedule for this week has the Falcons at Southern Lehigh tonight before hosting Palisades on Friday. Next week’s makeup game against Pen Argyl is the only game left on the schedule after this week.
