The Emmaus High School boys basketball beat Central Catholic 48-46 last Tuesday, Jan. 20, then took down Southern Lehigh 52-45 Thursday. But the Hornets were beaten by Allen 67-48 on Friday night.
Emmaus used a strong fourth quarter to rally and beat the Vikings. The Hornets trailed 11-10 after the first quarter, 22-18 at halftime and 34-29 after three, but outscored CCHS 19-12 in the final frame to complete the comeback victory.
They were helped by their outside shooting as they connected on nine 3-pointers. Matt Rooney, who hit four 3-pointers, finished with a team-high 20 points. Noeah Newsome drained three 3-pointers and had 11 points. Jake Ross hit the other two 3-pointers and recorded eight points. .
Just like against the Vikings, the Hornets had a strong second half, particularly the third quarter when they expanded a 24-23 halftime edge into double figures at 42-26 after three, outscoring the Spartans 18-3 in that period. Ross stepped up and had the big game, finishing with 23 points. Newsome contributed 10 points and Rooney added nine.
Allen took a sizable lead early and never looked back, leading 20-11 after one and 36-19 at halftime. Ross recorded 14 points and Newsome scored 11. Rooney and Othello Karto had six each.
Emmaus enters this week at 8-10 overall and 5-8 in the conference. The Hornets hosted Dieruff Tuesday and welcome Parkland Friday before traveling to Pottstown Saturday. The regular season finale is set for Monday at Whitehall.
